The Black Madonna: Alkemy & The Mystic Soul Mama

November 6, 2020- January 10, 2021

Mary L. Nohl 2020 Fellow, Milwaukee Arts Board 2020 “Artist of the Year” Recipient, and 5 Points Art Gallery & Studios’ Resident Artist, Ammar Nsoroma, rounds out his notable year with a solo show opening at 5 Points Art Gallery & Studios, entitled, The Black Madonna: Alkemy & The Mystic Soul Mama.

Revealing and revering Madonna in her truest form, Nsoroma’s new works, consisting of a mix of large pastels, acrylic paintings, and relief carvings, re-transpose Madonna to her proper identity, as a Black woman. Through Nsoroma’s poignant visuals and exceptional color use, the viewer is invited to explore the mysticism of the Black Madonna and partake in the narrative of the Black woman as the original mother, the prima materia, the source of everything.
